A Southern Plantation Wedding

Jenn + Paul

In September, we attended one of our favorite couple's wedding in Charleston, SC. They decided to get married here after attending our wedding from Boston (although they do have ties to the Carolinas and are moving to NC soon) 2.5 years ago because they fell in love with the city. Some people just have good taste, what can I say?

The wedding was held at the beautiful Boone Hall Plantation.

One of my favorite parts of the wedding was the decor and the little details everywhere. Jenn (because let's be honest, Paul just showed up - all guys do) thought of everything and it definitely showed. HELLO, where was Pinterest when I was planning?

Here are some snapshots of those details:

I am missing pictures of two of my favorite details - the programs and the door of keys with everyone's seat assignment on it. Again, I must be better about taking pictures!

And lastly, some pictures with the hubs, friends and the bride and groom.

Congratulations Paul and Jenn! I wish you two all the best as you begin your (married) life together!

Weekend Recap: The Big D

A weekend full of friends and a big city

On Saturday morning, the guys participated in the Tough Mudder Dallas. Check out the video....it's intense. John tried to get me to do it with him, but he obviously doesn't know me well enough after 8 years. I am totally risk-adverse and it gets worse the older that I get. I can barely enjoy skiing anymore...

While the guys were off proving their toughness, the girls headed out to do a little shopping. I picked up a few things, including this jacket from J. Crew. It is so much cuter in person. Maybe it's because of the styling?

J. Crew via
Emery also tried to get her crawl on. She is not quite there, but I have a feeling that she will be before I know it. Time, please slow down.....

On Saturday night, we all headed out to the Owner's Box at the Omni to grab dinner and watch the South Carolina vs. Missouri game. It was definitely a hard game to watch with all the inceptions, fumbles and missed field goals. But, the injured Connor Shaw came in during the 4th quarter to tie it up and send us into overtime. In the end, the South Carolina Gamecocks were victorious and we could all sleep a little better that night.

For the first time in a longtime, Spurrier looked happy at the end of the game.

 "We're very happy of course. It was a game that I thought we were dead. About three quarters of the game anyway, but we got some points there in the fourth quarter. Connor Shaw brought us back, guys made some catches, the defense stopped them and somehow Elliot Fry made the field goal and their guy missed." - Steve Spurrier

Five On Friday

Hellllo Friday! Thank you for FINALLY gracing us with your presence. Today, I am joining these fabulous ladies (a. liz adventures, carolina charm, hello! happiness and the good life blog) for my first 5 on Friday link up.

{ ONE }

I tend to only have painted fingernails in the fall. And for some reason, I always want them to be red. Maybe it's because of Gamecock football? Or Christmas right around the corner?

I am currently loving the color Rehka by Zoya. There nail polishes are toxin free. I learned this while I was pregnant with E. However, 90% of the nail polishes that I own are still OPI.

{ TWO }

Did anyone else take advantage of the 50% off everything sale at The Loft yesterday? Here are two of the little numbers that I picked up.

Cotton Peplum Top via

{ THREE }

I love party planning! I will make up any excuse to have a party. And right now, I have a very fun gender reveal party in the works for my friend, Emily. She is 17 weeks pregnant and cute as a button. I tell her all the time that the first little bump is the best (and to enjoy its cuteness now because you wont feel so cute at 8 and 9 months)!

{ FOUR }

My little sister (okay, she is 28, but still the baby of our family) is getting married in April and her photographer (our cousin, Mary Katherine) sent her this photo as a sneak peek. I can't wait to see the rest!

{ FIVE }

And lastly, Emery's Halloween costume arrived in the mail yesterday. It is pretty big on her (size 6-12), but we are still going to go with it. The peacock is the perfect mix of cute, unique and a little funny in there too.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Recipe: Superfood Salad

Now that pomegranates are back in season, I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes using them. It's the Superfood Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette. I found it on Pinterest about a year and a half ago and have made it several times since then. You can add chicken or shrimp to it. I always use shrimp, but I am sure the chicken is just as good.

Seriously, this dish is so yummy! Oh, and did I mention healthy?

recipe via

Serves 5

Ingredients:
1/2 cup dry quinoa
1/3 cup red onion, chopped
1 orange, peeled and segments chopped
1 avocado, chopped
1 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup pomegranate arils (about 1 pomegranate worth)
1 cup frozen corn, thawed
1/3 cup cilantro, chopped
salt & pepper
Add Shrimp or Chicken if you would like - I use sauteed shrimp.

For the Lemon Vinaigrette:
2 lemons, juiced (need 1/4 cup juice)
2 garlic cloves, microplaned or finely minced
dash of sweetener (agave nectar, stevia or white sugar) - I use agave nectar.
salt & pepper
6 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Directions:
Cook quinoa according to package directions. Set aside to cool.
For the Lemon Vinaigrette: combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight fitting lid, and shake to combine. Or, add lemon juice, garlic, sweetener, salt and pepper into a small bowl and whisk in oil.
Combine cooled quinoa with red onion, orange segments, avocado, beans, pomegranate arils, corn, cilantro, salt and pepper. Pour Lemon Vinaigrette over the salad and stir to combine. Serve cold or at room temperature.

I am typically not one for leftovers. But, since this dish is meant to be eaten cold, it is just as good the next day.

Be sure to let me know if you try it.

Enjoy!

Weekend Recap: Oktoberfest and A Garden Party

A quick weekend recap....

Tulsa Oktoberfest - October 17-20
Every October, Tulsa hosts the 2nd largest Oktoberfest in the US complete with authentic German music, large steins, chicken dancing, table stomping, penny throwing, bier barrel races, a Dachshund dash and lots of shenanigans. You are probably still stuck on the 2nd largest....hard to believe, I know.

You can't do the chicken dance without a chicken hat (and a beer)!

A Perfect Garden Party - October 19
Also, this lovely lady got hitched. Jackie is one of those people who knows EVERYONE. So, it was no surprise that her wedding was quite the place to be on Saturday night! The weather was a sunny 65 degrees and just perfect for the outdoor ceremony.

Favorite Things: Baby Edition (Birth to 2 Months)

One of my sorority sisters recently posted this question on Facebook, "If there was one thing you wished you had put on your baby registry (or that you are so glad you did) - what would it be?" Of course, I had to comment.

This little question took me straight back to the overwhelmed feeling that I had when it came time to register. I kept asking myself, “What do I NEED?” I didn't want to end up with a bunch of unused and not needed items (think wedding registry and the bazillions of kitchen gadgets that you register for and receive).

The first thing that I did was email all of the new moms in my life. I asked them a very similar question. I wanted to know what they loved, what they hated and what they could have lived without. I still have the emails (and may reference them again for a later post or just as a reminder to myself).

Here are the things that we loved:

UPPAbaby Vista Stroller – The main reason that I love this stroller so much is because of the bassinet that comes with it. When E was a newbie, we used the bassinet constantly. I just felt like she could sleep more comfortably in it while we were out and about. The stroller is also lightweight, easy to maneuver and converts to hold two children.

Halo SleepSack Swaddle – These are my #1 must-have for newbies. E basically lived in these the first few weeks of her life. They are wearable blankets to keep the baby cozy and make them feel secure. You know they are good when your hospital uses them too.

Aden + Anais swaddle blankets – Lightweight blankets that we used (and still use) for everything – swaddling, to nap on, a burp cloth, a blanket and to wipe up any messes. We have two packs of these - owl set and the ladybug/flower set.

WubbaNub Pacifier – For those of you who have never heard the word wubbanub, it is a paci with a stuffed animal attached. The stuffed animal helps the paci to stay in their mouth and also gives them something to hold onto. It is so sweet to see their little hands holding it. We started out with one and have racked up three. We literally have one in every room that E frequents (nursery, living room and master bedroom). We do not leave the house without a wubbanub to this day! At almost $15 a pop, the inventor is doing quite well. PURE GENIUS!!!!

Mamaroo – This futuristic looking contraption is a lifesaver (not to mention a space saver compared to other swings). E just loved it. She would sleep for hours in it and took most of her naps here in the beginning (when not napping in my arms). It has 5 settings - tree swing, car ride and kangaroo are the ones I remember off the top of my head. As far as swings go, this one is the Rolls Royce. But, I believe it is worth every penny. Also, get the infant insert. Newbies are way too small for it otherwise.

Diaper Genie – This was a last minute purchase. I didn't register for it because I received so many mixed reviews on it (bags are expensive, just take it outside to the trash, etc). But in the end, I picked one up and I think it was a great buy.

Noodle & Boo 2-1 Hair and Body Wash – We received this as part of a baby shower gift and the stuff smells amazing. Just buy it. I promise you won’t regret it. The lotion is pretty amazing as well.

Let's Play Dress Up

As a mom, I constantly feel like I am one step behind. So, finding a Halloween costume for Emery has been no exception. With her being so young, I have had a hard time justifying spending between $35-$60 on a costume. I am guessing that she will wear it for about an hour (before her bedtime) while Trick or Treaters come by to stock up on candy....and cavities. Kidding! Kidding!

But, they are only this little once, right? And, she will be adorable dressed up for pictures...not biased or anything. Is that enough justification? I think so.

Here are some favorites so far:

Bumblebee

Lobster

Cinderella

Peacock

Elephant

Teasing! Can you imagine?

Which one is your favorite?

Hello Blogging World!

I have officially joined the blogging world, so here goes nothing (OR maybe a more fitting saying would be here goes everything). I am a wife, a career-woman and most recently a mom to a sweet little girl, Emery. My husband, John, has lovingly dubbed her the game changer, which couldn't be more accurate.

This blog will be about all my loves in life – friends, fashion, home decorating, traveling, reality TV and Gamecock football – but mostly about my #1 love, my family.

I thought the best place to start would be to show my life in pictures so you, the blogging world, can get to know me and take a quick peek into my life. So here goes…..
