One of my sorority sisters recently posted this question on Facebook, "If there was one thing you wished you had put on your baby registry (or that you are so glad you did) - what would it be?" Of course, I had to comment.
This little question took me straight back to the overwhelmed feeling that I had when it came time to register. I
kept asking myself, “What do I NEED?” I didn't want to end up with a bunch of
unused and not needed items (think wedding registry and the bazillions of kitchen
gadgets that you register for and receive).
The first thing that I
did was email all of the new moms in my life. I asked them a very similar question. I wanted to know what
they loved, what they hated and what they could have lived without. I still
have the emails (and may reference them again for a later post or just as a reminder
to myself).
Here are the things that we loved:
UPPAbaby Vista Stroller – The main reason that I love this stroller so much is because of the bassinet that comes with it. When E was a newbie, we used the bassinet constantly. I just felt like she could sleep more comfortably in it while we were out and about. The stroller is also lightweight, easy to maneuver and converts to hold two children.

Halo SleepSack Swaddle – These are my #1 must-have for newbies. E basically lived in these the first few weeks of her life. They are
wearable blankets to keep the baby cozy and make them feel secure. You know
they are good when your hospital uses them too.
Aden + Anais swaddle
blankets – Lightweight blankets
that we used (and still use) for everything – swaddling, to nap on, a burp cloth, a blanket and to wipe up any messes. We have two packs of these - owl set and the ladybug/flower set.
WubbaNub Pacifier – For those of you who have never heard the word
wubbanub, it is a paci with a stuffed animal attached. The stuffed animal helps the paci to stay in their mouth and also gives them something to hold onto. It is so sweet to see their little hands holding it. We started out with one
and have racked up three. We literally have one in every room that E frequents
(nursery, living room and master bedroom). We do not leave the house without a
wubbanub to this day! At almost $15 a pop, the inventor is doing quite well. PURE GENIUS!!!!
Mamaroo – This futuristic looking contraption is a lifesaver (not
to mention a space saver compared to other swings). E just loved it. She would
sleep for hours in it and took most of her naps here in the beginning (when not
napping in my arms). It has 5 settings - tree swing, car ride and kangaroo are
the ones I remember off the top of my head. As far as swings go, this one is
the Rolls Royce. But, I believe it is worth every penny. Also, get the infant
insert. Newbies are way too small for it otherwise.
Diaper Genie – This was a last minute purchase. I didn't
register for it because I received so many mixed reviews on it (bags are expensive, just take it outside to the trash, etc). But in the
end, I picked one up and I think it was a great buy.
Noodle & Boo 2-1
Hair and Body Wash – We received this as part
of a baby shower gift and the stuff smells amazing. Just buy it. I promise you
won’t regret it. The lotion is pretty amazing as well.
